Annual Auke Bay Association Meeting Set, Aug. 29th

The Auke Bay Neighborhood Association’s annual meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, August 29th at 7:00pm in Room 116 of the UAS REC Center and National Guard Armory (same as Auke Bay poll location) at 12300 Mendenhall Loop Road.

The agenda is short but important, as we will be introducing our DRAFT bylaws to be confirmed and seeking a new board member.

Our current board members include: Dave Klein, Arlo Midgett, Don Howell, Linda Blefgen, Theresa Abbas, and George Reifenstein. Per our Bylaws the board is to consist of seven members, of which we have six. At the conclusion of this meeting we hope to add an additional member.

  1. Bylaws DRAFT (PDF) distributed to membership followed by discussion
  2. Items to discuss, proposed by board members: Speed limits in Auke Bay-Blefgen, Cross walks-Klein
  3. Membership Participation
  4. Voting of new board member due to vacancy
  5. Board will meet following public meeting to assign board positions: president, vice president, secretary, treasurer.

  1. It’s been two years since the Auke Bay plan was developed through a collaborative process with the city and many of the association members were involved in that process. I think it’s time to put pressure on the city and the Assembly to get the related regulations written. I checked earlier this year and nothing has occurred to date. When development decisions arise, if there are no regs in place reflecting the recommendations in the plan, actions may occur which are not in harmony with the vision.

  2. I wish to join in the discussion and become a member. I will be not be able to attend the meeting unfortunately.

    1. Hi Ric. I will forward some information from the director of Facilities Serves at UAS. They are making some lighting changes to the Back Loop Rd. crosswalk that should help with visibility. Look for my email.

  3. Is there a map showing the Auke Bay Association boundaries? If so, how can I find it? How were the boundaries determined?

    1. Bruce. There is a map on our website and inside our DRAFT Bylaws, both on the website. The boundaries were determined after speaking with adjoining Associations so as to not overlap.

          1. So, does the Association boundary match the Auke Bay Plan, Appendix C boundary, minus the Fritz Cove Association boundary? Does it go to Point Louisa or beyond? The draft by laws reads west to Otter Way which is before Auke Rec.? Does it include Spuhn and Coghlan Islands?

          2. Bruce, do you plan to attend the next meeting on Aug. 29th? The boundary is in DRAFT as are the rest of the bylaws. You make a good point, I’ll send an email out to my contact for Fritz Cove to see if their membership includes Spuhn, Coghlan or any islands in the bay. Your question and those of others will be presented at the meeting in case you or others can not attend. Hope to see you there.

          3. I do plan to attend. Seems to me that the Auke Bay Plan boundary, minus the Fritz Cove Association boundary, is a reasonable one unless folks west/north of Auke Rec. want to be included.

  4. I receive emails from a nextdoor.com site. How does it relate to the Association? Boundaries are a little different.

    1. Bruce there is no connection to either NextDoor or the Friends of Auke Bay Facebook page. We’ve used these two sites for sending information out but their membership or boundaries have no connection to the proposed Auke Bay Neighborhood Association boundary.
