Commercial Recreation Neighborhood Meetings Rescheduled for June 5 & 6

The CBJ Parks & Recreation neighborhood meetings on commercial recreation activity have been rescheduled for Wednesday, June 5 for the Twin Lakes/Lemon Creek area and Thursday, June 6 for the Valley/Auke Bay area.

CBJ Parks & Recreation has partnered with Corvus Design to host neighborhood meetings throughout Juneau about commercial use iton CBJ park lands and trails. These meetings are an opportunity to ask questions and provide feedback as CBJ works to define a thoughtful and strategic approach to commercial use in the community’s shared trails and outdoor spaces.

Parks & Rec is currently working to create an updated CBJ Commercial Recreation Strategy that is driven by public input and supports CBJ policies and ordinances. This plan will evaluate City-managed park lands and trails for commercial use to recommend locations and restrictions, carrying capacities, intensity of use, and adaptive management guidelines.

Neighborhoods meetings are just the beginning of an extensive public process that seeks to engage the community at each stage. The input gathered at these meetings will be used to craft initial recommendations, which the community will be able to review at multiple opportunities for comment and feedback later this summer.

Visit the project page for more information including process, timeline, and which trails will be discussed at each neighborhood meeting.

Share Your Thoughts About Commercial Recreation at Neighborhood Meetings in May

CBJ Parks & Recreation is partnering with Corvus Design to host five neighborhood meetings in May about commercial use on CBJ park lands and trails. These meetings are an opportunity to learn and provide feedback as CBJ works to define a thoughtful and strategic approach to commercial use in the community’s shared trails and outdoor spaces.

The community is invited to join these meetings to learn more about current commercial recreation activity in each neighborhood area and to share thoughts on the project. Each neighborhood meeting will focus on a specific area of town for discussion.

Juneau Neighborhood Associations (NA) Cruise Ship Impacts to Neighborhoods

Public meeting at Centennial Hall Feb. 27th at 5pm on the impacts of cruise ships to Juneau communities.

If you’re a member of a Juneau Neighborhood Association (see Auke Bay Neighborhood Boundary map at https://www.aukebay.org) please consider attending.

With the failure of the Auke Bay Area Plan the neighborhood association has not met for several years. I have often considered taking down this website, but have found this blog in particular to be helpful in getting information out to others in Auke Bay. Thoughts? Please comment below if you find this helpful.

Additional parcel layout that shows CBJ’s desired ROW to right of Allwine property to gain access to CBJ land that extends uphill from CCFR to behind Bayview and Seaview (39.8100 acres). Small section of Allwine property to the rear would be swapped out at fair market value for the new ROW.

Parks & Recreation seeks public comment on Auke Bay easement

Juneau residents have until September 1 to comment on whether the City and Borough of Juneau should grant a permanent easement across a 0.14-acre public Beach Access in Auke Bay to allow an adjacent property owner to build a new driveway. Submit comments here until 4:30 p.m. September 1.

The owners of 12005 Glacier Highway have applied for a permanent easement to acquire 800 square feet of CBJ property. This particular property was preserved by the Juneau Assembly in 1986 to provide public beach access in Auke Bay as part of the Juneau Open Space & Park System

The applicant intends to build a permanent driveway providing a new access to their home, which currently has an existing detached garage on Glacier Highway. The applicant proposes to construct a 40-foot-long, five-foot-wide public footpath from Glacier Highway for public access to the remainder of the 6,100-square-foot CBJ parcel.

If the application is approved by the Assembly, the applicant would be required to pay fair market value for the easement. The Parks & Recreation Advisory Committee will consider public comment before making a recommendation to the Assembly. The Planning Commission also will consider whether the disposal is consistent with the Comprehensive Plan.

The deadline to submit public comment is 4:30 p.m. on September 1. Submit comments online, email them to Parks.Rec@juneau.org, or mail them to Parks & Recreation 155 S. Seward St., Juneau AK 99801.
