Additional parcel layout that shows CBJ’s desired ROW to right of Allwine property to gain access to CBJ land that extends uphill from CCFR to behind Bayview and Seaview (39.8100 acres). Small section of Allwine property to the rear would be swapped out at fair market value for the new ROW.

Parks & Recreation seeks public comment on Auke Bay easement

Juneau residents have until September 1 to comment on whether the City and Borough of Juneau should grant a permanent easement across a 0.14-acre public Beach Access in Auke Bay to allow an adjacent property owner to build a new driveway. Submit comments here until 4:30 p.m. September 1.

The owners of 12005 Glacier Highway have applied for a permanent easement to acquire 800 square feet of CBJ property. This particular property was preserved by the Juneau Assembly in 1986 to provide public beach access in Auke Bay as part of the Juneau Open Space & Park System

The applicant intends to build a permanent driveway providing a new access to their home, which currently has an existing detached garage on Glacier Highway. The applicant proposes to construct a 40-foot-long, five-foot-wide public footpath from Glacier Highway for public access to the remainder of the 6,100-square-foot CBJ parcel.

If the application is approved by the Assembly, the applicant would be required to pay fair market value for the easement. The Parks & Recreation Advisory Committee will consider public comment before making a recommendation to the Assembly. The Planning Commission also will consider whether the disposal is consistent with the Comprehensive Plan.

The deadline to submit public comment is 4:30 p.m. on September 1. Submit comments online, email them to Parks.Rec@juneau.org, or mail them to Parks & Recreation 155 S. Seward St., Juneau AK 99801.

Auke Bay rezone meeting rescheduled

The Auke Bay rezone proposal that was scheduled for June 8th has been postponed until June 22nd. The Planning Commission agenda is just too full on June 8th and we did not want to make anyone who wished to testify wait until late in the evening to address the Planning Commission. A new postcard will be mailed out with the new date and Zoom link. I apologize for this change and if you have any questions please just let me know.

Take Care,

Allison

Trails Plan Focus Group

Sorry for the late nature of this message, however many of you have likely already seen this request elsewhere but it’s worth repeating. See below for discussion happening tonight. Many great trails in Auke Bay and a focus in the Auke Bay Area Plan.

I wanted to send a reminder that the Focus Group meeting for the Juneau Trails Plan is happening tonight at 5:30pm. This is a joint planning effort between CBJ, Alaska State Parks, US Forest Service, and Trail Mix, Inc. The plan will provide coordination and connectivity between these partners for the maintenance and future development of Juneau’s trails.

We would love to hear from your neighborhood association. This meeting will give the planning team the opportunity to learn how your members use the nearby trails and how these trails effect your neighborhood. Please see the attached agenda for details on the types of questions the planning team will be asking. Attendees are encouraged to ask questions of us, as well.

I anticipate the meeting taking no longer than 1.5 hours.

Meeting Slides from April 10th & April 17 Ad-Hoc Meeting

Conceptual subdivision and access to CBJ property, see page 6-7 of meeting slides.

For last weeks meeting slides please view the documents page or directly download the Meeting Slides (PDF). This meeting covered access, traffic and parking in Auke Bay. Areas of concern voiced by those in attendance had largely to do with the Auke Bay Subdivision Conceptual access road layout (page 6-7) of document above (and shown on this page). Concerns voiced had to due with size, location of collector roads and impacts this would have on Glacier Highway.

The Auke Bay Ad Hoc Committee will meet at UAS Rec Center (Rm 106) at 6pm on Wednesday, April 17, 2019. The Committee will discuss what we have heard from you and your neighbors regarding the proposed density and height regulations. Just a reminder, that these committee meetings are work sessions so no public comment will be taken during the meeting.

If you would like to provide written comment, please email Allison Eddins @ Allison.Eddins@juneau.org
