Parks & Recreation seeks public comment on Auke Bay easement

Juneau residents have until September 1 to comment on whether the City and Borough of Juneau should grant a permanent easement across a 0.14-acre public Beach Access in Auke Bay to allow an adjacent property owner to build a new driveway. Submit comments here until 4:30 p.m. September 1.

The owners of 12005 Glacier Highway have applied for a permanent easement to acquire 800 square feet of CBJ property. This particular property was preserved by the Juneau Assembly in 1986 to provide public beach access in Auke Bay as part of the Juneau Open Space & Park System

The applicant intends to build a permanent driveway providing a new access to their home, which currently has an existing detached garage on Glacier Highway. The applicant proposes to construct a 40-foot-long, five-foot-wide public footpath from Glacier Highway for public access to the remainder of the 6,100-square-foot CBJ parcel.

If the application is approved by the Assembly, the applicant would be required to pay fair market value for the easement. The Parks & Recreation Advisory Committee will consider public comment before making a recommendation to the Assembly. The Planning Commission also will consider whether the disposal is consistent with the Comprehensive Plan.

The deadline to submit public comment is 4:30 p.m. on September 1. Submit comments online, email them to Parks.Rec@juneau.org, or mail them to Parks & Recreation 155 S. Seward St., Juneau AK 99801.
